These are my own private thoughts and notes, with some research included at times.

All Saints, Sudbourne
August 2024: Initial thoughts: On the site of an earlier Saxon church/building on a typically elevated site. A very Victorian, dark interior and feel, with many Victorian tiles. Unusual mortar shaped font, I have not seen one like it before. The font is probably forward of its original position. Hatchments have been professionally restored but no full explanation of them in the Church handbook. More research needed. A skeleton was found in the graveyard in an odd place, unmarked, whilst water was being put in, which has since been moved. Info from SH. I did not photograph all of the hatchments. DND
Research:
Sutborne = Southern Stream (1050)
A large mortar, used for grinding corn, was set on modern shafts and pressed into service as the font (via Suffolkchurches.co.uk)
The Domesday book lists two churches in Sudbourne, of which one may have been the church at Iken
St Andrew, Bramfield
June 2024. Round tower separate from the church. Font had been moved from original location. Rood screen. Energy far less comfortable than Huntingfield. DND. Excellent place for rubbings
St Mary the Virgin. Huntingfield. Suffolk
June 2024. Good energy. Buttresses at 45 deg leading to font. Arrow on font pointing upwards is a (masonic) compass at top. DND. On another visit look in the vestry for 3/4 more hatchments. Pay £1 to put the lights on to make the roof shine.
